Blockchain After the Hype: Where the Technology Is Actually Used

From Bubble to Utility

After the price boom and the collapse of countless speculative projects, blockchain has survived the hype cycle. What remains is not just crypto assets but a handful of use cases that genuinely solve real problems.

What Has Proven to Work

1. Cross-border payments. Transfers that used to take 3–5 days with high fees now settle in minutes at near-zero cost — which is why stablecoins are being adopted seriously by financial institutions.

2. Supply chains and certification. Product provenance, halal certificates, and luxury-goods authenticity are now recorded on tamper-proof ledgers — measurably reducing counterfeiting.

3. Digital identity and notarization. Proof of ownership for documents, diplomas, and digital assets that anyone can verify without intermediaries.

What Is Still Overrated

Most "tokenize everything" projects and blockchain-based metaverses failed to find real demand. Blockchain solves trust between parties who do not know each other — not performance or storage problems.

Conclusion

Blockchain has matured into a specialized tool, not a replacement for everything. Like SQL or TCP/IP, it will become invisible infrastructure — working behind the scenes where distributed trust is genuinely needed.
